Visit to the emperor Diocletian palace, town of Split

The Diocletian's palace is the most famous antique building and the cultural monument, 17 centuries old, and has because of its preservation, in the year 1979. inserted into the UNESCO list of the world inheritance. It has been built as the palace and fortress from the year 295-305. for the dwelling place of the roman emperor Gaiusa Aureliusa Valeriusa Diocletianusa ( 236-316 ), after he has abdicated in the year 305. and wished to live in his native land. After he has left the emperor town of the Rome and settled down in the palace with his family,guard and all personal and logistic staff. His chambers were situated on the southern side of the palace,facing the sea,while the northern side was for the guard and the other staff. It had 4 and 12 smaller defensive towers.

On the southern side of palace, there was the entrance for the little harbour, through which, all the fruits,vegetables,wine,oil,fishes from the neighbouring island of Solta,meat,building materials, stones,and the other merchant products from all over the Mediterranean sea have been stored. At the level of the harbour, there were the cellar store houses for many groceries and merchandises, needed for the large emperor's family,guests and the other inhabitants of the palace. After his death in the year 316. the palace has been inhabited by the people from the surrounding settlements for the larger sucurity against the attacks from the sea and the land. During its history, the central part of the palace has esperienced the numerous contructional and architectural changes because of the numerous renovations for dwelling, while the outside walls have remained relatively good preserved. Numerous tourist,visitors and guests are coming to the visit of this best preserved roman Palace in the Mediterranean.

It is specially interesting to the tourists who have come to visit the town of Split by big cruisers, and several thousand od them came to look at this antique Palace 1700 years old.
