Saint Dujam celebration

The Saint Dujam celebration is the most important celebration of the town of Split, because it is paying the honour to Saint Dujam, who has been executed to the order of emperor Diocletian. He is the Saint and the town Split protector, originated from the state of Syria, who has come in this province to spread the catholic religion. Therefore he has been persecuted and executed with his followers on April 10th in the year 304. in the town of Salona. This holiday is celebrating on the first Sunday in May, and it is in the same time, the day of the town Split celebration.

On that day, many religious,cultural,ekonomic,sports,performances,sacral music and entertainment, are taking place. The central celebration is convining in the Saint Mary Cathedral and on the promenade, near the emperor Diocletian palace, where the Hvar-Brac-Vis's bishop holds the mass celebration near the proper set altar. On that day, the whole town is turned into the stage, where numerous decorations,flowers,first cherries,many domestic wooden things and the toys for the children, can be seen. The numerous tapping wooden yellow butterflies, pushing by the children, contributes a lot to this celebration.

This holiday is component part of the tourist summer and the town of Split offer. The participants at this celebrations are growing, because of interesting procession and gastronomic offer in the open spaces and promenade.
