National park Paklenica Croatia

National park Paklenica Croatia is south eastern part of mountain Velebit and it is situated in central western part of Croatia above town Starigrad. As national park it has been proclaimed in year 1949. to preserve diversity of flora and fauna, and it has got its name after resin – Paklina of black pine trees which are growing here. About 120.000 tourists a year are visiting National park Paklenica Croatia. In age of domination of wooden boats, this resin has been used in shipbuilding for sealing of ship hulls. National park Paklenica covers area north of town Starigrad, it has surface of 96 km2 and it is famous after 2 interesting canyons, Large Paklenica and Small Paklenica. National park Paklenica is rich in forests, numerous animals, birds, plants, Cliffs for free climbing, karst pits, caves and mills.
