Dalmatian singing gangs festival, town of Omis

The old town of Omis,known of its long history,pirates,beautiful river of Cetina,Radman's mill restaurant and sand's beaches, has enriched its tourist offer with a pearl, pleasant to the listening, and that is the singing gangs festival. The ancient year in the 1967. the first festival has taken place, so in the year 2010. it was the 44th Singing Gangs Festival in row, under the famous Omis rocks above the town and lasted all the month May. The solemny opening begins allways on Saturday in the Saint Mihovil Square with some visiting gang. Usually, the festival is taking place through the 4 elective evenings in the mixed competition of 27 male and female gangs who are competing for the rewards. How much the interest was, proves the fact, that the square can not accept all the interested guests and tourists, who wanted to be present at that wonderful music event. Festival lasted on May 3-24th . Elective evenings were on 8-11th , authors' evening on 16th , visiting town of Zagreb to the town of Omis on 17th , the evening of newly composed songs on 22th , final evening of the female gangs on 23th , and the final evening of the male gangs, on May 24th .

When the festival was over, all the winners in all the categories and gangs have been known. The celebraters have been proud of conquest the hearts of the juries and numerous audience, who have listened to those beautiful melodies and original dalmatian verse, in silence. There is no doubt, that this music event, has attracted numerous guests and tourists into the crowded town of Omis. At the time of festival, in the evening hours, the town becomes the place of numerous performances in the open space with the pleasant events and gatherings.
