Town Gornji Humac

Town Gornji Humac is important traffic centre and Tourist Town on Brac island. From town Bol, which is known as top destination of Brac island, it is 11 km far off, and from town Sumartin, which has ferry line with town Makarska on mainland, it is 15 km far off. Town Gornji Humac has been mentioned for the first time in 12 th century in Povlja charter, as agricultural and cattle breeding town on Brac plateau. Their ancestries have been settled at this spot for frequent attacks of numerous armies and pirats from sea, building solid stone houses and defensive walls. Town Gornji Humac has rich history. Under Venetian authority, it has been from 1420 to 1797 th year, which was encouraging in the same time the very population of Brac Island for its defense and processing of fertile Brac Island fields. After conquest of Bosnia in 16 th century by turkish army, numerous refugees from Bosnia and Poljica republic, have been running away and settled Brac island. Later, town Gornji Humac was under French ( 1805 – 1813 ) and Austria authority ( 1814 – 1918 ) . In its recent history Town Gornji Humac is famous after agriculture, cattle breeding, fishing, trade and rural tourism. Numerous Rural Houses and Taverns provide ideal terms for development of Rural Tourism because it is located in Rural Environment and it is in same time near tourist towns along Brac island seaside.
