Town Duce

Poljica Principality

The town of Duce is a town situated near town Omis, on the main road that connects Croatia's South and North. The Town Duce has long history and has been once a component part of the famous Poljica Principality. The Poljica Principality egsisted from the 13th to the year 1805. when it was abolished by the Franch general Marmount. Among the other things, the Poljica Principality was known for its constitution and independent authority. Remains of that time can be found in parts of the rural architecture. All these houses were build on the edges of mountain Mosor peaks so, the agricultural land which existed in the bottom of the mountain can be utilized. Later on inhabitants started building their houses closer to the sea shore and changed their occupation. Todays' inhabitants of Town Duce are mainly employed in trade, navy and tourism.
