Town Ploce

Town Ploce is situated in bay and it has largest port in Republic of Croatia. In its vicinity there is large River Neretva estuary which consists of 12 backwaters, 120 km2 of surface and famous Bacina Lakes which consists of 6 connected and 1 independent lakes. Town Ploce has been mentioned for first time in 14th century as port which has traded with Dubrovnik Republic, Venice and all town in Dalmatia. Protected bay was ideal spot for construction of port and carrying out of trade. Town Ploce has changed many rulers and authorities. Its name it has got after little island in bay where fishermen have drying their nets on flat stone slab after fishing. After construction of Adriatic highway in 1962. and railway from town Sarajevo to Town Ploce 1969. year, Town Ploce has started to grow rapidly as town and port. Today Ploce is modern town which is developing more and more on traffic, port activities, agriculture and tourism. Surrounding Bacina Lakes and River Neretva estuary provide large possibilites for photo safari, excursion and agritourism. Fertile fields can for favourable climate provide 2 crops a year and offer guests and tourists agritourism which consists of picking of all kind of fruits in beautiful nature.
